We condemn any violence aimed at a religion
It was shocking to hear about the firearm discharge outside York Mosque, and the police are to be thanked for their prompt response in locating and arresting the suspect. On behalf of York Interfaith Group I wish to express our support to all members of the Mosque who once more are threatened.
The Mosque provides many services not only to their members but to the whole community through their social work, free lunches and youth work, also the city benefits from the work undertaken by Muslims in the city who work in many sectors of the city including health and social care, education, retail, transport and local and civil government.
I hope that Readers of The Press will join York Interfaith Group in condemning any violence aimed at a religion and in particular to offer our support to the Mosque and all its members.

Who’d be a football manager?
I’m not a soccer fan, in fact I’m a fully-accredited sport-free zone.
However, even I was taken aback (or should that be ‘taken a fullback’) by the headline ‘Stuart Sacked’ on the back page of Monday’s Press (27th July).
York City officialdom issued some spiel to presumably placate the rank and file.
The club said ‘…ultimately, it comes down to a difference in direction and vision for the football club’, or to put it another way, ‘…blah-di-blah’ or yet another way ‘…Kerching!’ as I guess it often boils down to money, one way or the other.
Stuart Maynard did pretty well at City, better than his unlucky predecessor but somehow or other, not good enough?
Surely by winning automatic promotion, he was steering the team in the right direction.
He was probably deeply apologetic that City didn’t win the FA Cup this time round!
I was profoundly impressed by the speed with which his successor (let’s hope he is; success…or…else!) took over the desk/bench.
Did Stuart Maynard exit one door of the office while Scott Lindsey entered by the other door?
Is that a record? But then it’s not really sport, is it? Sport is amateur, unpaid except sometimes expenses covered. The rest is business or an industry.
But who am I to pontificate as a self-confessed ‘sport-free zone’?

Tracy deserves a medal
In the article "I love it around here" regarding Tracy Ostle, it's nice to see the one-woman head caretaker of the Groves (with helpers) receiving the recognition she justly deserves.
I often see Tracy when out walking with Pip the dog as we go for the paper before 7am and stop for a chat - out with her trolley, watering plants and collecting rubbish from the night before.
Tracy is the main instigator behind most of the improvements to the aesthetics in the Groves, not forgetting Tracy's other pet project, the Foss Fairy Trail.
Tracy, along with her helpers, are a credit to the whole area, and deserve a medal as big as a dustbin lid in recognition of her hard work.
