York poetry group announces autumn season to mark 12 years of poetry nights

A spoken word group is marking 12 years of live poetry nights in York.

Say Owt, founded in 2014, is celebrating with a season of events featuring established poets alongside new and emerging talent.

The group is known for its high-energy performances, including poets, musicians, spoken word artists, and rappers.

As part of the autumn 2026 season, Say Owt will welcome a performance from Michael Rosen, the former Children’s Poet Laureate and one of the UK’s most beloved poets.

Henry Raby, Say Owt’s artistic director, said: "We’re always proud of our line-ups, but this could be our most exciting parade of poets yet.

"It wouldn't be possible without buzzy audiences showing up and being loud and demanding more and more shows."

Rosen’s supporting act will be Cory Rich, the winner of the most recent Say Owt Slam.

The next poetry slam, featuring guest poet Kirsty Taylor, will take place at The Crescent on September 26 and will coincide with the venue’s birthday weekend.

Say Owt’s poetry slams are known for their lively atmosphere and audience participation, with poets competing to impress the crowd.

Recent shows at the Bluebird Bakery sold out, including a performance by poet Harry Baker.
