Children across East Riding will be able to enjoy free bus travel this summer under a new seasonal scheme.
Buses in Hull and East Yorkshire will offer free travel to children under the Government’s Great British Summer Savings Scheme, with both of the region’s main bus operators, East Yorkshire and Stagecoach East Midlands, signed up.
The scheme runs from August 1 to August 31 and offers free travel for children aged five to 15.
Mayor of Hull and East Yorkshire Luke Campbell MBE said: "I am excited that our region’s bus operators have signed up to offer free bus travel for children throughout August.
"This is great news for families across the region, but I want to go one step further."
He has also funded a 50 per cent fare discount for 16-19-year-olds who ask for a 'Mayor’s Fares' ticket, with no registration or travel card required.
Children can simply board East Yorkshire or Stagecoach buses free of charge, while 16-19-year-olds will pay no more than £1.50 for a single journey or £3 for a return ticket.
Councillor Nick Coultish of East Riding of Yorkshire Council said: "This is a fantastic money-saver for local families during the summer holidays, which is a costly time of year."
