It can be hard to keep your children happy throughout the school holidays, especially if you are on a budget.

However, in and around York, there are a few things you can do that are not too expensive but will still keep your family happy.

If you and your children love animals, you could take a trip to the Beetle Bank Open Farm, which is only a short drive away from York.

The farm has a range of experiences to allow you to get up close to the animals as well as lots of summery activities to get involved in.

What can I do at Beetle Bank Open Farm?

The farm is home to a range of animals including pigs, turkeys, alpacas, and rabbits that you can feed while walking around the area.

You could even book an alpaca walk session where you can spend time with the alpacas in the fields.

There is an Education Zone where your children can learn more about farm life and animal care.

For two weeks in August, the farm is running a range of exciting activities including character meet and greets, football challenges, and inflatables.

Children can let off some steam by running around the playground that features a bouncy castle, sand pit and tractor rides, meaning there should be something for everyone to enjoy.

After working up an appetite exploring the farm, you can head over to the farm café to enjoy a breakfast, lunch or cake made using local ingredients with options for adults and children.

Entry to the farm costs £8 per person from Monday to Friday and £9.50 per person on the weekends.
