Ripon goes all-out for Yorkshire Day and historic St Wilfrid's Procession

Ripon will host its famous St Wilfrid's Procession this weekend but it’s only one part of the city’s celebrations to mark Yorkshire Day.

If there's one city determined to be the most Yorkshire of all Yorkshire places, it's Ripon - proudly rooted in the very heart of the county, easy to reach from every direction, and brimming with heritage, character and community spirit.

Taking place on Saturday, August 1, the day of Yorkshire Day since 1975, thousands of people will gather in Ripon Market Square on Saturday to witness the annual St Wilfrid's Procession make its way through the ancient city.

But Ripon is pulling out all the stops to celebrate Yorkshire Day with the support of Ripon Business Improvement District (BID).

To mark the occasion, Ripon BID has installed 50 Yorkshire flags across key points in the city centre, adding a cheerful splash of white-rose pride to welcome residents and visitors.

St Wilfrid's Procession will start at approximately 1.30pm followed by a service in Ripon Cathedral at 4pm.

To round off the celebrations, Ripon will host a special Hornblowing ceremony at 9pm, featuring all four Hornblowers performing together to mark the occasion.

No visit to Ripon on Yorkshire Day would be complete without joining Walter the Whippet on his trail through the city brought to you by Ripon BID.
