A patient says she has regained her independence thanks to the care and support of an NHS rehabilitation team in North Yorkshire.
Diana Scott-Brown, from Husthwaite near Thirsk, was referred to the Rutson unit at the Friarage Hospital after undergoing major spinal decompression surgery in April at The James Cook University Hospital.
The surgery was needed to relieve pressure on her nerves and spinal cord.
Following the procedure, Ms Scott-Brown began a personalised rehabilitation programme at the Rutson unit, which supports patients recovering from strokes and other complex conditions.
She said: "I would like to thank the team for all their hard work and efforts.
"The team always went above and beyond for me, and I was never a bother to them.
"They have been passionate, friendly and always brought laughter and positivity to the ward.
"They are the reason I am back in my home and regaining my independence once again."
The specialist rehabilitation team focused on helping Ms Scott-Brown rebuild her strength and confidence through targeted mobility training, balance exercises, and support with daily activities.
Lucy Keenan, clinical lead physiotherapist for stroke and complex rehabilitation, said: "She always encouraged other patients during their rehab journeys and time on the Rutson, which has enhanced their rehab stay and aided their progression too."
After two months of rehabilitation, Ms Scott-Brown was able to return home and continue living independently.
Ms Keenan described working with her as a privilege, adding: "It has been a privilege to work with Diana towards her therapy goals alongside the entire multidisciplinary team on the Rutson ward, and I wish her all the best for the future."
The Rutson unit provides specialist inpatient rehabilitation for patients recovering from strokes and other complex medical conditions.
Patients receive care from a multidisciplinary team, all working together to help individuals regain as much independence as possible.
She was at risk of worsening symptoms affecting activities such as walking before undergoing surgery and rehabilitation.
With the support of the Rutson team, she regained mobility and confidence, enabling her to return home.
