Leeds United fan dies two weeks after being hit by car in city centre

Tributes have been paid to an “avid” Leeds United fan who died in hospital two weeks after being hit by a car in the city centre.

Emergency services were called to reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a vehicle on King Street at the junction with York Place at around 11.35pm on Friday, July 10. The police are renewing an appeal for witnesses to come forward.

A man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, the force confirmed at the time.

Graham Jordan, 73, of Brough in Humberside has now been named as the victim by police.

He died on Monday (July 27) just over two weeks after the incident.

Graham’s family have paid tribute to him.

A spokesperson for the force said: “They described him as a much-loved husband, father and grandfather.

“He was an active man who enjoyed keeping busy and spending time with his family. An avid Leeds United supporter, he followed the club with great interest and rarely missed a match.

“He will be remembered by those who knew him and missed by his family and friends.”

A black Ford Tourneo taxi was travelling along York Place and turned onto King Street, police said.

The taxi driver was arrested at the scene and has since been bailed pending further enquiries.

Officers are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collision or the taxi the moments before the collision to contact them.

A number of people were reportedly outside the nearby Metropole Hotel on King Street at the time of the collision and officers are keen to hear from anyone who may have been there who witnessed the collision.
