A popular pub just outside York’s city walls has a new owner.
Major pub company Punch Pubs & Co has added to its growing portfolio with the acquisition of The Masons Arms pub in York**.**
The Grade II listed building, which sits on York’s historical Fishergate, will sit within Punch’s Leased & Tenanted estate and will be run by existing Publican, Terry Cooney.
The Masons Arms is highly-regarded ‘traditional’ pub, with Tudor styling, good food and a tranquil beer garden overlooking the Ouse. It also offers accommodation.

Google awards the venue 4.6 stars out of five, based on 1,827 Google reviews.
Tripadvisor awards 4.3 stars out of five based on 1,094 reviews, ranking it 107th out of 888 restaurants in York. It received a Traveller’s Choice Award for 2025.

The community pub is well-known for its historic features, including its fireplace and panelled bar. It also boasts a popular beer terrace overlooking the River Foss, making it a favourite destination for locals and tourists alike.
