Details about the opening of a new £1.6 million York riverside bar and restaurant with an on-site brewery have been revealed by the company behind the project.
The Mittel River Terrace is set to open in the Guildhall Restaurant building overlooking the River Ouse in November.
Jamie Hawksworth, director of Pivovar which is behind the venue, said they were eager to crack on with the project which has been set back by delays.
It comes as York Council planning officers have given the go ahead for the conversion of the Guildhall Restaurant into the new venue.
Pivovar, which runs Elvington Brewery and venues across York and the North, had its bid to licence the building approved by councillors in April.
Mittel pilsner and lager are both produced at the company’s Elvington site.
The Guildhall Restaurant building has stood vacant since it was constructed as part of the £20 million regeneration of the wider Guildhall complex completed in 2022.
Approval of both plans paves the way for the conversion of the building which is set to feature seating for up to 300 patrons across both its floors.
It is set to feature a bespoke brewhouse made in the Czech Republic which will brew a range of lagers to be served on-site.
Oysters and rotisserie pork and chicken are among the food set to be on offer, with produce sourced from local suppliers.
Brewing equipment would be installed at the centre of the ground floor which would also feature riverside garden, kitchen, toilets and back of house facilities.
More seating and service areas would be on the first floor, along with an outdoor terrace.
The venue would operate from 8am to midnight and serve drinks from 10am to 11.30pm daily.
Pivovar Director Mr Hawksworth told a council licensing hearing in April the venue’s focus would be on food though people would be welcome to come in solely for drinks.
Councillors heard most customers were expected to visit outside of normal working hours.
But five objections were lodged including from companies based in the Guildhall complex who feared they would be exposed to noise and disruption from the venue’s patrons.
Mittel River Terrace was originally slated to open this summer.
Speaking after plans were approved on Tuesday, 28 July, Mr Hawksworth told LDRS they were delighted they had been given the go ahead.
The director said: “We’re looking forward to opening in November this year.
“The delays have set us back somewhat but we’re now eager to crack on with the scheme design which is nearing completion.”
Mr Hawksworth previously told YorkMix the project was the one he was the most excited about out of all the ones he had worked on.
The director said: “This will allow us to produce all our Bavarian-inspired lagers on-site with the addition of seasonal styles.
“We are building a gastro brewing restaurant with the most amazing private views onto the River Ouse.
“We also have two large south facing private external terraces which will be the ideal location to enjoy fresh lager beers and a gastro experience.”
