Global supermarket chain puts Harrogate on its 'priority list' for new location

Supermarket chain Aldi has listed Harrogate as a priority target location in its latest expansion of its global retail business.

As part of Aldi’s UK-wide expansion, the discount retailer is looking to secure sites for new stores in Yorkshire as it works towards its long-term target of 1,500 locations nationwide.

Britain’s biggest discounter says it is focused on bringing high-quality, affordable food to more communities, with priority areas in Yorkshire including Ilkley, Tadcaster, Pickering and Harrogate.

Currently the supermarket chain’s only store in Harrogate is located at Oak Beck Road where it opened its doors in 2016.

Jonathan Neale, Managing Director of National Real Estate at Aldi UK, said: “We know how important it is for people to have access to affordable, high-quality food close to where they live, which is why we’re focused on identifying the communities that would benefit most from a new Aldi store.

“Opening new stores in these areas means we can bring great value to more customers, while also creating jobs and offering industry-leading pay.”

Aldi remains the UK’s highest-paying supermarket with Store Assistants earning from £13.50 per hour.

German-owned, it operates 13,600 stores in 18 countries.

Aldi is seeking freehold, leasehold or long leasehold sites in prominent locations with good visibility and access, and is encouraging landowners and agents in Yorkshire to come forward with suitable opportunities.
