A BRAND-NEW shop has opened in one of York’s most popular streets.
Wonder, in 24 Fossgate, welcomed its first customers today.
The new lifestyle, homeware and gift shop is owned by Ruth Phillips.
In the six weeks since taking over the lease of the quaint shop - previously occupied by vegan café Remedy - Ruth has completely revitalised the space with a clean, vibrant design.
Ruth says she has loved all things homeware since she was a teen, and was excited to start a brand-new venture with Wonder

Prior to Remedy, the shop was also home to The Barbican Bookshop, which closed in 2014 after 53 years of trading in the street.
She said: “I just wanted to create a space where people could buy joyful things for their homes.
“There aren’t many lifestyle brands at this end of town – and I wanted to open a completely new place to shop in Fossgate.”

Ruth also co-owns The Good Food Shop, in Bishopthorpe Road, with her husband Dan, which they have run for the last five and a half years.
She said: “I remember wandering endlessly around Habitat – what was the Urban Outfitters of the time – when I was 15.
“I loved the big, bright colours and the minimalist feel.”
Items in the shop are chosen by Ruth for their aesthetic and environmental friendliness.

She said: “Our facial products are organic and the material for the hair ties and other items on sale are made of recycled plastic.
“I have spent a lot of time searching for quality items that I know will make people smile.”
Wonder is now open from 10.30am till 4.30pm, Wednesday to Sunday.
The opening times are provisional and may be subject to change as the business evolves.
