A LARGE crop fire was brought under control after approximately 20 acres of fields were affected by the blaze.
The fire, which started at around 4.20pm on Tuesday (July 28), saw nine crews from eight different fire stations across North and East Yorkshire called to help dampen down the flames that some people reported seeing from miles away.
Train lines between Bridlington and Scarborough were also blocked as farmers and crews worked together to stop the fire from spreading further.

In an update posted yesterday (July 29), North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said that firefighters stayed at the scene into the evening to dampen down hotspots and that they visited again in the morning to check again.
In the evening, a spokesperson added: “There was a revisit this morning and full inspection, any hotspots had already been dampened down. Advice given was to recontact us if it reignites.”
In a post to Facebook, the owners of nearby Graffitoe Farm Campsite said that they were ‘overwhelmed’ by the kindness shown to them after the fire and thanked fire crews and ‘the incredible farming community’ for how they tackled the blaze.
They said: “This afternoon we’ve been overwhelmed by the kindness shown to us following the fire outbreak on the farm.
“A huge thank you to everyone who has sent messages, offered help, and checked in on us. Your support has meant so much.
“We’d also like to say an enormous thank you to the fire crews who worked tirelessly to bring the fire under control, and to the incredible farming community. Seeing so many tractors arriving in our fields, ready to help however they could, was truly humbling. It reminded us just how amazing our local community is.
“Thankfully, everyone is safe and well, and for that we are incredibly grateful. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. Thankfully, the fire wasn’t near our campsite, animals or wildflowers, and everyone is safe.”
They added that they were able to reopen as normal later this week.
