Watch: Police dog helps catch suspected drug dealer after Sheffield pursuit

A suspected drug dealer was arrested after leading police on a pursuit through Sheffield before fleeing on foot, only to be caught by a police dog.

At around 10am on Wednesday (Jul 22), officers asked the driver of a silver Toyota RAV4 to stop on Waterslacks Road in Sheffield.

The driver failed to stop and officers pursued the vehicle, with the driver continuing without showing any signs of stopping.

The National Police Air Service (NPAS) and a police dog handler were deployed to support the pursuit in anticipation of the suspect attempting to flee.

The pursuit was safely brought to an end on the A57, where the suspect got out of the vehicle and ran from officers.

Recently recruited police dog Odin and his handler chased the suspect, who was quickly detained and arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop.

Officers searched the vehicle and a bag belonging to the suspect, where they discovered what they believe to be Class A drugs and equipment linked to drug dealing.

The man was further arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.

Police said: "We are here for our communities, we will respond and intercept those who use the road network to commit criminality."
