Hull man jailed after suffocating woman and subjecting her to coercive control

A Hull man has been jailed after admitting intentionally suffocating a woman, assaulting her and subjecting her to coercive and controlling behaviour.

Benjamin Morgan, 29 from Hull, pleaded guilty to intentional suffocation, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and engaging in coercive and controlling behaviour.

On Friday (Jul 24), at Hull Crown Court, Morgan was sentenced to three years and six months in prison.

He also received a ten-year restraining order.

Officer in the case, Detective Constable Jude Spensley: “Firstly I would like to praise the victim for her strength and courage throughout the whole investigative process and the court proceedings leading up the sentencing.

“I know it can be incredibly difficult for someone to come forward when they are being coercively controlled, however I hope that this sentencing gives hope to other victims that there is help available.

“Please be assured that if you talk to us, we will listen and we will support you.
