Families in York are being invited to press play on a day of oversized fun as a free retro gaming event returns to the city centre.
The Actual Reality Arcade is set to transform Parliament Street on Saturday, August 15, from 12pm to 6pm, bringing classic video games to life on a giant scale.
Instead of screens and controllers, visitors can step into the action with larger-than-life versions of old favourites.
Highlights include a huge laser run challenge, a towering Tetris wall, and a whack-a-mole game where the “moles” are brave human volunteers.
Classic games are coming to York city centre when York BID brings the Actual Reality Arcade to Parliament Street on August 15 from 12pm to 6pm.

Alongside the playful nostalgia, the event will also showcase some of the organisations helping to keep York safe. North Yorkshire Police will be on hand offering free bike registration through their Bike Register scheme, while York Rescue Boat volunteers will be demonstrating their vital work on the city’s waterways.

There will also be free face painting, making it an easy win for families looking to keep younger visitors entertained during the summer holidays.
The event forms part of York BID’s ongoing Family Friendly Saturdays programme, which has been bringing interactive installations and activities into the city centre throughout the year.
Carl Alsop, operations manager at York BID, said: “Over the past year, we’ve delivered 11 Family Friendly Saturdays, creating memorable experiences in York’s public spaces.
“This event is set to be one of our biggest yet, with so much to see and do.
“We’re excited to bring together fantastic entertainment with some of the dedicated organisations that work hard to keep our city safe, making it a true community celebration.”
York BID says the programme is designed to create a lively, welcoming city centre for residents and visitors alike, with free events aimed at all ages.
And with giant games, community groups and a dose of retro fun, this latest instalment looks set to turn a simple Saturday into a high-score day out.
