Scarborough concert raises hundreds for mental health charities

A concert promoting hope and healing has helped raise vital funds for mental health support.

Samuel Idowu, a gospel musician and community advocate, delivered the Love & Light Concert at Woodend Art Gallery and Studios in Scarborough on Saturday, July 25, 2026.

The concert raised funds for Mind and Scarborough, Whitby & Ryedale Mind and encouraged conversations around emotional wellbeing, offering an afternoon of live music, worship, and inspirational messages.

Mr Idowu said: "Music has the ability to reach people in ways words sometimes cannot.

"Love & Light was created to remind people to speak up, that they are valued, they are not alone, and that there is always hope even during difficult seasons."

The event brought together people from all walks of life, including performers, community leaders, volunteers, and members of the public, highlighting the unifying potential of the arts around important social issues.

The concert raised £503 on the day, with additional donations expected from pledges made over the weekend.

Organisers believe the final total will increase once all contributions are received.

Mr Idowu expressed his thanks to everyone who helped make the event possible.

He continues to use his music and outreach work to inspire hope, resilience, and compassion in communities.
