Woman, 26, dies and five injured in North Yorkshire crash

A woman died in the crash which closed a North Yorkshire road for several hours today (Wednesday).

It happened on the A170 between Wrelton and Pickering at about 1.30am.

A white Volkswagen Polo, travelling away from Pickering, and a black Audi A4, travelling the other way, collided.

The woman driver of the Polo, aged 26, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

There were five people in the Audi A4. They were taken to hospital for treatment to injuries of varying severity.

Police say none are thought to be life-threatening at this stage.

The A170 remained closed for several hours while specialist officers carried out collision investigation work.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “We are now appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision, or who saw either vehicle travelling on the A170 prior to the incident, to come forward.

“We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have dashcam footage or CCTV recordings that could assist our enquiries.”
