Two men have been arrested on suspicion of burglary after officers on a routine patrol uncovered evidence of a break-in at a pub in North Yorkshire.
On Monday evening (27 July), officers noticed a vehicle parked in suspicious circumstances near the viewing point close to RAF Leeming.
An initial inspection found it was unlocked and contained tools including hammers, screwdrivers and part of a rip saw.
Later, officers followed the vehicle before being stopped near Junction 50 of the A1(M).
The driver and passenger, both men in their 20s from the West Yorkshire area, were searched along with the vehicle.
During those searches, officers discovered “a number of items that had not been present” during their earlier inspection.
Further enquiries led officers to a pub on Roman Road, close to RAF Leeming, where signs of a break-in were discovered.
Inside, items had been disturbed and cash was found scattered on the floor.
Both men were arrested on suspicion of burglary and taken into custody, where they remain while enquiries continue.
The vehicle has been seized, along with all items recovered, as part of the ongoing investigation.
Chief Inspector Tom Ibbetson from North Yorkshire Police, said: “These arrests demonstrate the value of our nightly proactive operational deployments across North Yorkshire.
“Officers were carrying out tasked patrol activity when they noticed something that did not look right.
“Their vigilance, professional curiosity and swift actions led to the identification of a suspected burglary and the arrest of two suspects within a short space of time.”
