AN empty York shop is set for a new lease of life under newly-approved plans.
Jewellers Pandora is set to move into the vacant Claire’s Accessories store in Monks Cross Shopping Park after a planning application was approved by City of York Council.
Signs featuring Pandora’s name and logo are set to be fitted to the outside of the store as part of the conversion.
Council planning officers stated the signs were in keeping with the building and the surrounding area.
It comes after Claire’s closed all 154 of its UK and Ireland stores in April, including three in York, after announcing it was going into administration last year.
The closure of the stores resulted in the loss of 1,300 jobs and the company owed almost £20 million at the time of its collapse.
Plans for the Monks Cross store’s conversion, which were lodged in June, include installing three pink and white illuminated facia signs bearing the company’s name.
One black and white projecting sign with Pandora’s name and logo would also be fitted to the side of Unit Five in the shopping park.
Pandora is the world’s largest jewellery brand with more than 2,700 stores and about 6,800 sale points in 100 countries, according to the company which is based in Denmark.
The firm has stores in Davygate, in York city centre, and in Harrogate.
Council planning officers stated the plans were “in keeping with the building and the surrounding area.
“The signage is not considered to cause harm to amenity or public safety.”
