Detectives are appealing for witnesses and information following a theft involving cash machines at Wetherby Services in the early hours of this morning.
The incident happened at approximately 2am today (Wednesday).
A black vehicle, believed to be an older-model Nissan Juke, was driven into the services through doors near the M&S Food store.
The vehicle was then used to repeatedly ram a standalone ATM.
Four men wearing face coverings and gloves were involved. Two of the suspects then attached what is believed to have been a chain to a cash payout machine, which was pulled free using the vehicle.
The machine was subsequently loaded into the rear of the Nissan Juke.
A Nissan Juke has since been recovered in the Leeds area. The vehicle had been set on fire and the stolen cash machine was found inside.
Officers are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident, saw the Nissan Juke travelling between Wetherby and Leeds between 1am and 5am, or has any information that could assist the investigation.
In particular, detectives would like to identify and speak to three men who may have witnessed the incident and could hold information relevant to enquiries.
They are urged to come forward as soon as possible.
Officers said: “We would like to emphasise that, at this stage, we believe these men are witnesses and do not believe they were involved in the offence.
“Their information could prove important in helping us establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.”
