Iran war live: US military intercepts Tehran’s latest ‘surprise’ missile attack

The US military has announced that it intercepted Iran’s latest “surprise attack” following US President Donald Trump’s meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Tuesday.

“At 5:45 p.m. ET today, Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces launched multiple ballistic missiles from Iran in an attempted surprise attack on U.S. forces based in the Middle East. All Iranian missiles were successfully intercepted”, US Central Command wrote on X.

CENTCOM later said the Saudi Arabian Armed Forces aided the US military in a separate military effort Tuesday after “Iran-aligned” terrorists launched more than 30 drone attacks in the last 72 hours.

The US military accused Iran’s paramilitary of directing terrorists to attack American forces and Saudi energy infrastructure.

“U.S. and Saudi fighter aircraft struck multiple terrorist logistics and weapons sites across eastern Iraq in a strong response” to the Iran-directed attacks, CENTCOM said.

Earlier, Netanyahu went to the White House for a closed-door talk with Trump during the prime minister’s first visit since the US and Israel launched a joint war against Iran.

Netanyahu said his meeting with Trump was “one of the best” they’ve had and the White House called it “positive and productive”.

The Saudi Arabian Armed Forces, in coordination with US Central Command, conducted “precise and targeted strikes” against those militias in Iraq after air defense systems “intercepted and destroyed several drones that attempted to target petroleum facilities in the Eastern Province and Riyadh regions”, the ministry wrote on X.

“The Kingdom emphasizes that it does not seek escalation but will respond to any aggression it faces”.

“I always hate to disappoint our would-be critics who are trying to find cracks in our alliance, and what they find like today is a wall of granite”, Netanyahu told network host Sean Hannity.

The prime minister said he and Trump “have a common commitment”.

“We don't want to see this fanatic regime in Tehran have nuclear weapons to threaten every American, and to threaten the peace of the world, and to threaten the existence of Israel”, Netanyahu said. “We have a common goal, and it's going to be achieved either through diplomatic means or other means”.
