As the hot and dry weather in the UK continues, you might notice your lawn suffering during the summer.
It might not be pleasant spending time in your garden when the grass looks more like hay.
If your lawn is looking very patchy, dry, and straw-like, there are ways you can revive it that do not cost a lot and do not use loads of water.
A garden expert has revealed how a cheap household item can be used to restore your lawn to its healthy green colour.
How can I revive my dry garden in the summer?
Allyn Hane, who runs the Lawn Care Nut YouTube channel, has shared a simple solution using an essential most people have in their kitchens.
In a video, he showed how you can use washing up liquid to revive your lawn.
The washing up liquid acts as a wetting agent that can go on the lawn.
Allyn said: "A wetting agent, the soap, is going to break the surface tension of the water so it can be, in essence, slipperier, and it can get penetrated deeper faster."
The washing up liquid helps to maximise the water you put on the lawn to get it to go deeper into the soil.
Many areas have a hosepipe ban, so you can mix the solution in a watering can and use it on your lawn that way.
To make the solution, Allyn says you should use around 140 millilitres for every 1,000 square feet of garden.
A 500ml bottle of washing up liquid from Aldi only costs 62p, making this a cheap hack to test out.
What areas of the UK have a hosepipe ban?
With little to no rain falling in the UK at the moment, many water companies have put a hosepipe ban in place.
Anglian Water, Cambridge Water, South East Water, South West Water, Southern Water, and Thames Water have all put a hosepipe ban in place for their customers.
Affinity Water and Welsh Water have put a hosepipe ban in certain areas.
Northern Ireland Water, Severn Trent Water, and South Staffordshire Water have all requested their customers avoid using their hosepipes, but there is currently no ban.
