COUNTERFEIT notes have been passed in an "over the doorstep" sale in York.
North Yorkshire Police said it happened in Danebury Drive, Acomb, on Tuesday, June 9.
The notes were passed in exchange for an item put on sale by the homeowner.
The force released an image of a man it would like to speak to saying he may have information which could help the police investigation.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "Anyone who recognises the man or has relevant information please contact the force by email to PC1570 Coulthard at richard.coulthard@northyorkshire.police.uk.
"Alternatively, call North Yorkshire Police on 101 or if you wish to remain anonymous, you can pass information to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or online via their website.
"The reference number 12260106754 should be quoted when providing information."
