TWO popular chain restaurants are set to close their doors in York and North Yorkshire in September as part of a major restructuring plan.
The Millfield (Beefeater) in York and The Carousel (Brewers Fayre) in Scarborough have announced that they will be shutting at the start of September as part of a plan to close 197 sites across the country.
Beefeater and Brewers Fayre will shut all locations across the UK after parent company Whitbread announced the planned closure in May, alongside cutting around 3,800 jobs as part of a five-year strategy to save £250 million.

Brewers Fayre restaurants, including The Carousel, will close after dinner service on September 7, whereas Beefeater sites like The Millfield will shut on September 10.
Other Whitbread brands, including Bar + Block, Table Table, and Cookhouse + Pub, will close on September 3, with the company saying that they will be replaced with restaurants integrated into Premier Inn hotels.

Dominic Paul, chief executive of Whitbread, said: "This plan will transform Whitbread into a higher-margin, higher-returning pure-play hotel business.
"We always challenge ourselves to improve and, in light of significant cost increases in the form of business rates and national insurance, as well as the implied market discount to our inherent value, we've looked hard at the options open to us to maximise value creation over the medium and long-term."

Whitbread said the model was more efficient and “highly popular with hotel guests” - with the group aiming to increase its current portfolio of around 86,600 hotel rooms to 96,000 by the 2031 financial year.
The closures mark the end of the 89-location Brewers Fayre chain and 106 Beefeater sites.
