A NORTH Yorkshire man is standing against Nigel Farage in the forthcoming Clacton by-election.
Martin Davies from Knaresborough has been confirmed as the Freedom Alliance candidate for the election, which will be held on Thursday, August 13.
He is among a record 34 candidates standing for the vacant parliamentary seat, alongside Reform UK leader Nigel Farage and Count Binface.
Official election documents listed by Tendring District Council report Mr Davies as living within the Harrogate and Knaresborough constituency.

Mr Davies is also registered with the Electoral Commission as the leader and treasurer of Freedom Alliance, which has its official address at Manor Road in Knaresborough.

In a campaign leaflet, Mr Davies says he recently retired from Lloyds Banking Group as a manager, working with people, solving problems and managing teams.
Mr Davies said he wants to offer Clacton voters “positive politics”, seeking ‘no career politicians’ with ‘no corporate sponsorships’ just ‘regular, honest people’ in politics.
He said: “I'm standing because I believe politics should be about serving communities, listening to residents and leaving the next generation with a better country. Westminster seems to have forgotten this, and Freedom Alliance is here to bring it back.”

His campaign literature describes the Freedom Alliance as ‘Libertarian’ and focussed on freedom of choice.
Policies include MPs being paid the average wage of their constituency and rather than politicians imposing Digital ID to track the populace, “we should track them – who they meet, who lobbies them, and why they make their decisions.
“We have a right to see where all our taxes are spent, and accountability of those who spend it.”

The by-election was triggered after Mr Farage resigned as Clacton’s MP earlier this month before announcing that he would stand in the seat again.
The Reform Party leader’s resignation followed criticism from opponents over financial gifts and support which it was alleged had not been properly declared. Mr Farage rejects the criticism, stressing he has not broken any rules.
Voting in the Clacton by-election will take place between 7am and 10pm on Thursday August 13.
