An upcoming fun run is helping to support conservation efforts for Asiatic black bears.
The Big Bear Run, a 10k event raising funds for Project Moon Bear, will take place at Askham Bryan Wildlife and Conservation Park in York on Sunday, August 16, 2026.
Project Moon Bear is dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating Asiatic black bears in South Korea.
So far, more than 550 runners have signed up to take part in the event, which will begin and end in the park grounds before continuing along nearby roads.
Tilly McGill, deputy animal sciences and conservation manager, said: “I am incredibly proud of the whole running community for banding together to support such an incredible Charity.
"Project Moon Bear does so much work to care for ex-bear-bile bears, and if we can just help them make an impact, then we can make a positive difference.
"Conservation is at the heart of everything we do, and this is the largest-scale event we have ever run.
"We are thankful to be partnering with Curlys Run, who have helped make this all possible! Thank you to everyone involved."
Runners will receive a bear-themed medal and entry to the park to see the animals.
