Where is the outcry over the World Cup’s carbon footprint - Yorkshire Post Letters

The FIFA World Cup 2026 is over with some estimates of attendance as high as 7 million making it the most attended World Cup in history. There were 48 teams and 104 matches.

Why have the Green Brigade not raised the issue of the trillions of tons of additional greenhouse gas created by this tournament and demanded to know how the countries involved intended to reduce their emissions in future to cover this huge spike in world emissions?

Governments cannot, on the one hand, demand that their populations reduce their personal emissions whilst people are flying off to attend the FIFA World Cup. It is unacceptable that UK politicians, manipulated by the green puppet masters, tell us to buy electric cars and heat pumps, eat less meat, cull cattle and buy a bike plus lots more to reduce our miserly 0.8 per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions.

When are our UK politicians going to kick out the soothsayers with their green crystal balls and state that we need fossil fuels to drive our economy which is what nearly every other country in the world is doing and has been doing for decades and will continue to do so?
