Police praise victim’s courage as man convicted for coercive behaviour

Police have commended the courage of a victim for coming forward and helping convict a man for abuse offences against her.

Stephen Davies, 27, was jailed for 32-months on Thursday July 23 for the coercive and controlling behaviour of his victim.

He was sentenced at York Crown Court after admitting the offence on the first day of his trial there.

The offending took place between August and November 2025 against a woman in the Kirklees area.

Davies, of no fixed address in Huddersfield, was arrested shortly after the report was made and charged to appear before magistrates on November 10 of that year.

Aside from the court sentence he was also been made subject to a 15 year restraining order preventing him from contacting his victim.

PC Reece Woodhead of the Kirklees Domestic Abuse Team said: ”The victim in this case has shown real courage in supporting a prosecution against Davies for the awful offending he subjected her to. Her bravery in supporting a police investigation and prosecution by the CPS resulted in him being put behind bars.

“I hope she can take some closure from the sentence and knowing Davies has also been made subject of a restraining order to prevent him from contacting her again.”

He added: “We can reassure all victims of offending such as coercive and controlling behaviour that we will always listen, support them, fully investigate and put them in touch with any support services they may need.”
