Iconic fish and chip chain set to reopen in North Yorkshire town

An iconic fish and chip chain is making a comeback in a North Yorkshire seaside town.

Papa’s Fish & Chips will officially reopen in Whitby, in Baxtergate, on Thursday (August 6).

Founded in 1966, the family-run brand has built a strong reputation across Yorkshire and beyond for its crispy batter, freshly made chips, and welcoming atmosphere.

Daniel Maund, director of operations at Papa's Fish and Chips, said: "Whitby is one of the most famous fish and chip destinations in the world, so we’re incredibly proud to bring back the Papa’s experience to the town."

He added: "We’re passionate about serving high-quality food, creating memorable experiences for families, and continuing the tradition that has defined our business for nearly 60 years.

"This major investment reflects our confidence in Whitby and our long-term commitment to the town."

Daniel said the reopening has created new, local jobs.

'Bigger, better and built for the future'

He said that he was excited to welcome back customers to the shop that would be "bigger, better and build for the future".

The restaurant will reopen with over 250 covers—including over 100 on the ground floor - following the sale of a neighbouring property.

The expanded space will be able to cater to families, groups, and coach parties.

The menu will feature a full selection of fish and chips, as well as children's meals, vegetarian and gluten-free options, and takeaway services.

The reopening is expected to boost tourism and support the community, with the newly recruited team made up of Whitby residents.
