IN PICTURES: 111th annual agricultural show at popular North Yorkshire estate

Fine weather boosted the turnout of a traditional agricultural show at the weekend.

The Aldborough and Boroughbridge Agricultural Show took place at Newby Hall near Ripon on Sunday, marking the 111th edition of the long-running Yorkshire event.

The annual show delivered a full day of countryside fun, entertainment, and farming heritage.

This year’s programme included a creative writing competition, a rural wellbeing hub, and a "fittest farmer" challenge alongside long-standing favourites.

Dominique Hardcastle from Ripon was the ‘fittest’ female farmer and Jonny Betts of London was the ‘fittest’ male farmer.

The show began at 9.30am and will featured a variety of livestock and equine classes, including the popular cattle parade, horse and donkey showing, heavy horses, and private driving.

Show Chairman Catherine Park Peyton, said afterwards: “This year’s Aldborough and Boroughbridge Agricultural Show was a wonderful celebration of agriculture, community and countryside. It was fantastic to see so many people enjoying the day, and our new Fittest Farmer competition was a fabulous success, bringing tremendous energy and excitement to the main ring.

“I was especially proud of our Rural Wellbeing Hub, which brought rural charities and welfare organisations into the heart of the show, making valuable advice and support more visible and accessible.

The Bishop of Ripon, the Rt Rev Anna Eltringham, posted on social media on Monday: “Another day, another (fantastic) country show. This time one on our doorstep just 10 mins away at Newby Hall.

"They really know how to celebrate all things local, farming, vintage, crafty, arty, tasty, fun and floral in North Yorkshire! This one is 111 this year and while showcasing the best didn't take things too seriously....loved every minute.”
