York's MP recently visited a new teen space that is giving young people a voice in shaping their community.
York MP Rachael Maskell visited the newly launched teen area at Rowntree Park, which was co-created with Make Space York and designed by young people to reflect their needs.
The project aims to address the lack of inclusive spaces for teenagers, especially girls, in public parks.
Ms Maskell said: "Make Space York is a fantastic project that allows young people to shape the facilities that they want to see.
"Not only does this mean that they feel listened to, but it allows their creativity to flourish.
"The young people I spoke with on the day were so grateful to be able to work on a project such as this one, and had many more imaginative ideas for the future."
Make Space York has been active since 2021, providing co-created space, hosting a free festival in June, and sharing its model at conferences in Ireland and Australia.
Abigail Gaines of Make Space York said: "When we stop assuming what young people need and start listening to them, we create better public spaces for everyone.
"This isn't about creating a space just for girls-it's about making sure public spaces work for everyone."
