A serial shoplifter has been jailed for 49 weeks after she was convicted of 16 charges of theft and assault.
In total, Chelsea O’Brien, 31, of Chapelfields Road, Acomb, stole items valued at more than £1,800.
The court told her she had an "appalling record for like offending”.
She pleaded guilty at York Magistrates' Court to charges including the theft of various food, laundry products, and toiletries from shops across York between July 2025 and June 2026.
These included £500 worth of meat from Sainsbury's, more than £160 in toiletries from Savers, as well as food, washing and laundry products from Tesco, Co-op, and Spar, with individual thefts ranging from £15 to £200. She also admitted assaults on a man and a woman on separate occasions, alongside failing to surrender to custody on multiple dates.
O’Brien, who has also used the name Chelsea Briggs, denied four further shoplifting offences, involving thefts from Co-Operative stores and Jorvik Garage and was convicted of them at trial.
