Suspected deliberate fires started in Ripon woodland

Firefighters believe five separate fires found in woodland near Ripon yesterday (Sunday) were started deliberately.

Crews from Ripon Fire Station were called to Whitcliffe Lane at 5:16pm following reports of a fire in the open.

On arrival, firefighters discovered five separate fires in woodland, each measuring approximately one metre by one metre.

The fires were extinguished using knapsack sprayers and buckets of water.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said police were informed as the fires were believed to have been started deliberately.

No injuries were reported and no further details have been released.
