Drug dealer's text messages used to implicate him

A drug dealer has been taken off the streets after police used his text messages to implicate him.

Florian Gjuni, 25, pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine with the intent to supply on June 22 at York Crown Court.

Albanian national Gjuni, of no fixed address in Scarborough, has been sentenced to 29 months imprisonment.

Along with his jail time, Gjuni has been ordered to forfeit £854.

On Sunday May 24, 2026, CCTV operators notified North Yorkshire Police officers of some potential suspicious activity taking place on St Thomas Street in Scarborough, involving a man believed to be Gjuni.

The next day, a proactive patrol including plain clothes officers again saw him acting suspiciously.

They witnessed Gjuni approaching a man, engage in an exchange, before they intercepted and arrested him.

Gjuni was searched and a substantial quantity of cash was found on him as well as a bag of white powder.

At an address where Gjuni was staying, officers also found more than £800 cash, a large seal bag containing smaller deal bags with white powder in each one - this later tested positive for cocaine.

Through phone work, it was established that messages on Gjuni's phone implicated him in the supply of the Class A drug.

Detective Constable Alfie Thomlinson, from Scarborough CID , who led the investigation, said: “We are pleased with the outcome at court, but our work does not stop there - we will continue to take a firm stance against drug-related crime in the Scarborough area and work closely with community partners to reduce the irrefutable harm caused by drugs, especially its devastating impact on vulnerable people in our communities.

"This offence took place at the end of May and has come to a positive outcome only a month later, showing true diligent and expeditious investigation by Scarborough CID.

“We will not stop working tirelessly to pursue those who bring drugs into North Yorkshire - we are committed to making North Yorkshire a place that is, and feels, a safe space to live, work and visit.”
