A38 crash: Police release update after four people from Leeds including baby die in crash

Derbyshire Police have issued an update after a fatal crash on the A38.

The driver arrested in connection with the fatal collision in which four people died has been bailed, police said.

All those involved in the crash are from Leeds, police confirmed.

Officers were called out to reports that a red Hyundai car had left the carriageway and crashed into trees on the A38, close to the Toyota Island, at about 11pm on Saturday July 25.

Two women, aged 18 and 30, along with a 36-year-old man, were declared dead at the scene.

A baby girl was taken to hospital where she died, police said.

All four were passengers in the vehicle.

The driver – a 33-year-old man – was taken to hospital to be treated for serious injuries where he remains today.

He was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been bailed.

The relatives of those involved are aware and are receiving support from specialist officers.

In a statement on Monday afternoon, Derbyshire Police said: 2We are continuing to appeal for anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward.

“Officers are also keen to hear from anyone who has any dash cam footage which may have captured the incident.

“Information can be passed to us using one of the methods below and please quote incident number 26*442464.”
