New food outlet plans lodged for major York street after 'take a peak' teaser

The vacant 17, Coney Street would be converted to house Yorkshire Burrito if plans lodged with York Council are approved.
They would see the empty unit, which was previously home to the Bubbleology bubble tea store, fitted with signs featuring Yorkshire Burrito’s pink, black and white branding.
Plans from the food vendor stated the changes would respect the character of the Grade II-listed building.

It comes after the company teased its plans for the conversion of the vacant unit which is next to the Waterstones bookstore.
The Press reported the unit’s windows had been covered with brown paper with a hole cut out revealing a QR code.
The display featured text saying: “Go on, take a peak” and an arrow pointed to the code which gave those who scanned it offers for free food.
Yorkshire Burrito launched in 2015 and it now five outlets in the London boroughs of Camden, Leicester Square, Vauxhall and Wembley.

It serves the staples of a Sunday roast wrapped in a Yorkshire pudding.
Beef, chicken and cauliflower cheese wraps feature on the outlet’s menu along with sides of roast and mash potatoes.
The company also offers a catering service.
Its website stated: “Back in 2015, we had the idea of wrapping a roast dinner in a giant Yorkshire pudding.
“Since then, Yorkshire Burrito has become our way of taking one of Britain’s best meals out of the dining room and onto the street, into offices, events, markets and lunch breaks across the country.
“It’s the best bits of a roast dinner, any day of the week.”
Signs which would be installed on the empty Coney Street building include one featuring the company’s name and another saying: “Come on in” with an arrow pointing to its door.
Plans for the conversion stated no alterations were planned to the structure of the front of the listed building.
The application stated: ” All fixings are reversible- fascia letters use discrete pin-mounted studs with no backing board, and removal would require only minor remedial redecoration.
“The proposal therefore constitutes a limited, largely reversible intervention that preserves the significance of the listed building.”
The store was open to Bubbleology which opened in September 2023 before subsequently closing.
It was previously home to The Phone Store.
The plans are the latest of those submitted or approved for buildings in Coney Street in recent months.
Beauty store Space NK is set to open this autumn after the council approved the conversion of the former JD Sports store in 3-7, Coney Street.
An application from the Manchester-based Federal café to licence 5, Coney Street for alcohol sales has also been lodged and is awaiting a decision.
