Frustrated Harrogate motorists attempt to avoid new four-way traffic controls on key road into town

Traffic was unusually light on a key road into Harrogate as motorists sought to avoid a new roadworks nightmare.

With a four-way traffic control in operation, there were fewer cars on the A59 along Starbeck High Street than even the start of school holidays might have led many to expect.

Located between the entrance to The Avenue and just St Andrew’s Church, the set of temporary traffic lights was also accompanied by three big holes and the temporary removal of a bus stop towards Starbeck level crossing.

The reason is, once again, utility repair and maintenance works being carried out by Northern Gas Networks Operations.

Like many areas of Harrogate, that same stretch of the A59 has been subject to road works multiple times for utility work during the last two or three years.

The disruption is expected to continue until Friday, August 14.
